AN ACT

 

establishing the department of weights and measures transfer study committee.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Department of weights and measures transfer study committee; membership; duties; report; delayed repeal

A.  The department of weights and measures transfer study committee is established consisting of the following members:

1.  The director of the Arizona department of agriculture or the director's designee.

2.  The director of the department of weights and measures or the director's designee.

3.  One representative of an association of retail grocers.  The speaker of the house of representatives shall appoint this member.

4.  One representative of fuel distributors. The president of the senate shall appoint this member.

5.  One representative of the agricultural community.  The speaker of the house of representatives shall appoint this member.

6.  One public member who is appointed by the president of the senate.

7.  The chairperson of the house of representatives agriculture and water committee.

8.  The chairperson of the house of representatives energy and natural resources committee.

9.  The chairperson of the senate natural resources and transportation committee.

B.  The committee shall:

1.  Study the feasibility of merging the department of weights and measures into the Arizona department of agriculture.

2.  Submit a report regarding the committee's activities and recommendations for legislative action on or before December 31, 2011 to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives and provide a copy of this report to the secretary of state.

C.  This section is repealed from and after September 30, 2012.
