SENATE RESOLUTION 1007

A RESOLUTION

on the death of dorothy morris.

(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)

Dorothy Morris was killed on January 8, 2011 at the age of seventy-six during a horrendous assassination attempt on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' life.

Dorothy Morris, known to her friends as Dot, was a retired homemaker and secretary who had lived in Oro Valley since the mid-1990s.  She traveled extensively with her husband, George, and enjoyed their summer retreat in Pinetop.

Six innocent people, including Dot Morris, were tragically killed on the morning of January 8, 2011, when a lone gunman began shooting those who had gathered at Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' Congress on Your Corner event in Tucson.  Dot and her husband, George, were attending the event when gunfire rang out.  George attempted to shield his wife from the gunfire, but she had sustained critical injuries.

This senseless attack has shocked and saddened all Americans, and the citizens of Arizona are in mourning.  Yet for many, their grief goes deeper than can be imagined as they face the terrible reality of the loss of innocent loved ones.  Dot Morris will be greatly missed by her husband, George, her two daughters and her many friends in the Oro Valley community.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona:

That the Members of the Senate sincerely regret the passing of Dorothy Morris and extend their deepest sympathies to her family and many friends.
