A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
supporting the red rock project in southern arizona.
(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)
Whereas, the proposed Red Rock Project, a rail classification yard with overseas shipping container aspects to be developed on a 950-acre site near Picacho Peak, will create 350 direct jobs and 6,000 indirect jobs in the Pinal County area; and
Whereas, the Red Rock Project complements the expansion of Pinal Air Park and the Phoenix and Mesa Foreign Trade Zones; and
Whereas, the Red Rock Project will create one of the largest logistics centers in the western United States, with Union Pacific alone creating thousands of indirect jobs in manufacturing industries for area residents; and
Whereas, the Red Rock Project will create tremendous opportunities for supply chain and ancillary operations; and
Whereas, the Red Rock Project will bring millions of dollars in tax revenue to the state and county; and
Whereas, the Red Rock Project is the cornerstone of Pinal County's transportation and logistics job creation strategy; and
Whereas, Union Pacific is already working with several industrial developers for the yard design and construction; and
Whereas, letters of support from the Pinal County Board of Supervisors and others have been sent to the State Land Department; and
Whereas, the increased levels of economic activity associated with the development and operation of the Red Rock Project will bring lasting benefits to the regional and state economy; and
Whereas, the Red Rock Project will attract industrial developments along the I-10 corridor and will enhance Arizona's competitive future by creating a base to attract manufacturing businesses to the region; and
Whereas, the difficult economic conditions have created a shortage of parties interested in purchasing state trust lands such that the State Land Department should have additional incentives to auction land that generates interest from potential buyers and resulting revenue for the trust.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona, the House of Representatives concurring:
1. That the Members of the Legislature support the Red Rock Project and extend best wishes for its successful development and operation.
2. That the Members of the Legislature expect the land will soon be auctioned by the State Land Department.
