urging the united states congress to reauthorize the violence against women act.

To the Congress of the United States:

Your memorialist respectfully represents:

Whereas, since the Violence Against Women Act was first enacted, it has saved lives and helped millions of victims; and

Whereas, even with such progress, however, too many women continue to face injury or death at the hands of a domestic partner; and

Whereas, the victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence and stalking encompass all socioeconomic and racial backgrounds, and all victims, including those from immigrant, Native American and lesbian or gay populations, deserve the protection offered by the Violence Against Women Act; and

Whereas, tribal courts must be given jurisdiction when the victims or perpetrators of these crimes are Native Americans or when these incidences occur on sovereign tribal lands; and

Whereas, Congress must move swiftly and in a bipartisan manner to reauthorize this important legislation and ensure that protection is readily available for all people who face domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence and stalking.

Wherefore your memorialist, the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, prays:

1.  That the United States Congress take immediate steps to ensure the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act.

2.  That the Secretary of State of the State of Arizona transmit copies of this Memorial to the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and each Member of Congress from the State of Arizona.
