AN ACT

 

Making appropriations to the department of health services for biomedical research.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Appropriations; genomics‑based medical research; audit; exemption

A.  The sum of $5,500,000 is appropriated from the health research fund established by section 36‑275, Arizona Revised Statutes, in each of the fiscal years 2014-2015 through 2018‑2019 to the department of health services for allocation to a nonprofit medical research institute headquartered in this state that specializes in biomedical research focused on applying genomic technologies to clinical care and that collaborates with universities, hospitals and health science research centers and other public and private bioscience and related industries in this state.

B.  The recipient of the monies appropriated pursuant to subsection A of this section shall commission an annual audit of the expenditure of these monies and shall submit a copy of the audit to the department of health services on or before December 31 of each year.

C.  The appropriation made in subsection A of this section is exempt from the provisions of section 35‑190, Arizona Revised Statutes, relating to lapsing of appropriations.
