A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

supporting the use of inmate labor and services throughout this state.

(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)

Whereas, the state department of corrections can provide inexpensive, reliable and capable service or labor to any state agency, any political subdivision or any private person, firm, corporation or association; and

Whereas, any inmate who provides services or labor is put through a rigorous screening process to ensure there is no danger to the public; and

Whereas, inmates currently provide custodial services, pick up litter along roadways and highways, provide animal care, build parks, expand curbs, gutters and sidewalks in communities and work in national forests; and

Whereas, inmate services and labor can create new income and jobs in communities throughout Arizona by renovating and rejuvenating older properties through partnerships; and

Whereas, inmate services and labor can help communities all over Arizona remove graffiti and repair roads at a time when public resources need to be maximized.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona, the House of Representatives concurring:

1.  That the Members of the Legislature support inmate services and labor for use throughout this state.
