• Removes language that allows an employee of the Arizona Department of Agriculture (ADA) or a livestock operator to take any wolf without penalty under federal law.

 

• Permits the taking of a wolf by an ADA employee pursuant to an agreement between ADA and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) if the wolf has been documented or caught in the act of killing livestock.

 

• Separates wolf from the mountain lion and bear taking statutes by creating a new section that permits a livestock operator to take any wolf if:
• the wolf is actually engaged in the act of killing, wounding or biting livestock;
• the wolf is taken by livestock guarding dogs; or
• the wolf is taken in self-defense of the lives of others and the take is reported as specified. 

 

• Removes language requiring the USFWS to provide certain information to the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) and the ADA instead requires AGFD to request this information.

 

• Requires AGFD to notify private landowners, permittees or lessees of federal lands located within the allotment area where wolves are released or held for release at the time of the placement of the wolves in the area.
