FLOOR AMENDMENT EXPLANATION

 

·         Requires Arizona to withdraw from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) and prohibits the adoption of the PARCC assessment.

 

·         Prohibits school districts and charter schools from requiring students to pass an assessment in order to graduate from high school for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 school years.

 

·         Eliminates all changes regarding the State Board of Education’s authority to prescribe and adopt academic standards, competency requirements and assessments.

 

·         Maintains the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards test title change.

A.  This state shall withdraw from the partnership for assessment of readiness for college and careers and the state board of education shall not adopt any assessment developed by that consortium. 

B.  This state may not enter into or renew an agreement with any outside entity that develops academic standards and assessments for use in multiple states unless the state board of education notifies the speaker of the house of representatives and the president of the senate in writing during a session of the legislature."
