"B.  A school district governing board or the governing body of a charter school may approve and designate a school district or charter school employee or employees to possess and store a firearm on the school campus for the purpose of defending that school campus.

C.  The attorney general shall:

1.  Issue a certificate that is valid for twelve months to each approved designee who has successfully completed the school safety designee program training.  The certificate authorizes the designee to possess a firearm on school grounds where the designee is employed.  The designee shall possess the certificate at all times that the designee possesses or stores a firearm on school grounds and, on demand of any peace officer, shall present the certificate for inspection.

2.  Maintain a list of the school campuses and designees that are participating in the program and shall forward the list to the police department of the city or town in which the campus is located or, if none, the sheriff of the county in which the campus is located.

D.  The attorney general may establish rules regarding:

1.  Qualifications for authorized designees.

2.  Limits on the types of firearms and ammunition that are authorized for program use.

3.  Program training standards."

(a)  Certified by the Arizona peace officer standards and training board as a law enforcement firearms instructor.

(b)  Approved by the attorney general's office after submitting to a background investigation, including a check for warrants and a criminal history records check and attesting that all program training is conducted in accordance with this section."

"5.  Notify the local law enforcement agency of each designee and the designee's normal duty area of the campus.

G.  A firearm that is possessed by an authorized designee must be stored in a locked, secured firearms locker.  The firearms locker key or combination must remain in the possession of the designee.  The authorized designee may remove the firearm from the firearms locker either:

1.  To defend the lives of persons on the school grounds.

2.  To transport the firearm to or from school grounds for training, maintenance, cleaning or other lawful purposes.  while transporting a firearm on school grounds, the authorized designee shall carry the firearm concealed in a holster or in a locked case.

H.  For the purposes of this section, "program" means the school safety designee program established by this section."
