AN ACT

 

making a supplemental appropriation to the legislature for legal representation for current and former members in civil matters.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Supplemental appropriation; legislature; legal representation; exemption

A.  In addition to the appropriation made by Laws 2013, first special session, chapter 1, section 55, the sum of $100,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2013-2014 to the legislature as follows:

1.  Senate                                $50,000

2.  House of representatives              $50,000

B.  The amount appropriated in subsection A of this section may be used to provide legal representation to current and former members of the legislature who are subject to a subpoena or other request in a civil action for the production of documents related to the member's status as a current or former member of the legislature and who would otherwise be required to pay the costs of the representation and related costs and fees.  The amount appropriated in subsection A of this section may not be used to provide legal representation relating to the production of documents that are solely campaign documents.

C.  The appropriation made in subsection A of this section is exempt from the provisions of section 35-190, Arizona Revised Statutes, relating to lapsing of appropriations.
