FLOOR AMENDMENT EXPLANATION

 

1)    Allows online charter school pupils to participate in interscholastic activities at charter schools.

2)    Prohibits homeschooled children or online charter school pupils from participating in interscholastic activities in the same school year on behalf of more than one school.  

3)    Makes changes to the way the reasonable fee is calculated for school districts.

Page 1, between lines 1 and 2, insert:

Line 8, strike "public"; after "school" insert "that is operated by a school district"

Between lines 23 and 24, insert:

"B.  Notwithstanding any other law, a child who is enrolled in an online charter school shall be allowed to try out for interscholastic activities on behalf of a charter school in the same manner as a pupil who is enrolled in that charter school.  Registration, age eligibility requirements, fees, INSURANCE, transportation, physical condition, qualifications, responsibilities, event schedules, standards of behavior and performance policies for online charter school students shall be consistent with those policies established for students enrolled in that charter school.  The PRINCIPAL OR CHIEF ADMINISTRATOR OF THE ONLINE CHARTER SCHOOL IN WHICH THE PUPIL IS ENROLLED shall submit written verification that provides:

1.  Whether the student is receiving a passing grade in each course or subject being taught.

2. Whether the student is maintaining satisfactory progress towards advancement or promotion."
