AN ACT

 

AMENDING TITLE 15, CHAPTER 7, ARTICLE 5, ARIZONA REVISED STATUTES, BY ADDING

SECTION 15-782.01; RELATING TO CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 15, chapter 7, article 5, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 15-782.01, to read:

START_STATUTE15-782.01.  Instructors; specialized teaching certificate; qualifications; rules

A.  NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER LAW, The state board of education shall issue a specialized teaching certificate in career and technical EDUCATION to A PERSON WHO PROVIDES INSTRUCTION IN A CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION COURSE OR PROGRAM THAT IS OFFERED BY A SCHOOL DISTRICT OR JOINT TECHNICAL EDUCATION DISTRICT IF THE PERSON DOES ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

1.  Demonstrates expertise in the subject matter in which the person will provide instruction.

2.  DEMONSTRATES CURRENT OR PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE IN THE SUBJECT MATTER IN WHICH THE PERSON WILL PROVIDE INSTRUCTION.

3.  Has either a baccalaureate degree, a master's degree or a doctorate degree in an academic subject that is specific to the subject matter in which the person will provide instruction.

4.  COMPLIES WITH THE FINGERPRINTING AND BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENTS PRESCRIBED IN SECTION 15-512.

5.  MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHER UNDER FEDERAL LAW.

B.  The state board of education shall adopt rules to carry out the purposes of this section. END_STATUTE
