AN ACT
amending section 22-102, Arizona Revised Statutes; relating to justices of the peace.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Section 22-102, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended to read:
22-102. Officers and term of office; residency requirement
A. The officers of justice precincts shall be a justice of the peace and a constable, who shall be elected by the qualified electors of the precinct at the general election for state and county officers for terms of four years each.
B. A candidate for justice of the peace shall be a qualified elector of the precinct from which the person proposes to represent at the time of filing a nomination paper and shall reside in the precinct from which the person proposes to represent for at least one year before the date of the general election. This subsection does not apply to a justice of the peace who is appointed to fill a vacancy pursuant to section 16‑230.
Sec. 2. Applicability
Section 22-102, Arizona Revised Statutes, as amended by this act, applies to a justice of the peace who is elected from and after the effective date of this act.
