A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 

proclaiming february 5, 2018 as special olympics day in arizona.

Whereas, 2018 marks the fiftieth anniversary celebration of the Special Olympics; and

Whereas, Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year‑round training and competitions to more than 5.3 million athletes and Unified Sports partners in 172 countries; and

Whereas, Special Olympics is the leading voice in raising awareness about the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities; and

Whereas, through the power of sports, children and adults with disabilities discover new strengths, abilities, confidence and successes on the playing field and in life; and

Whereas, Special Olympics events bring together a large and inclusive community of athletes, families, supporters, coaches and volunteers; and

Whereas, the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Program is the world's largest public health organization for people with intellectual disabilities and offers a wide range of free health exams and care; and

Whereas, Special Olympics identifies the pressing issues facing those with intellectual disabilities, leads high-level scientific research and reaches out to the highest leaders in government and communities to influence policy and bring valuable service to those in need; and

Whereas, Special Olympics Arizona serves more than 25,000 athletes of all ages with training, health care and inclusive competitive opportunities in Arizona and creates an inclusion revolution by building friendships, character and leadership in athletes with and without disabilities in 260 schools across Arizona.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the Members of the Legislature proclaim February 5, 2018 as Special Olympics Day in Arizona and express support for the work of the Special Olympics Arizona.
