Arizona Space Commission

 

PURPOSE:     To: (1) serve as this State's sole coordinator of all space-related commercial and high technological partnerships; (2) provide technical support to the Department of Commerce and other local development organizations; (3) provide expertise and advice to the State regarding all space-related and high technological business matters; and (4) prepare a plan that addresses the development of space-related industry in Arizona.

 

MEMBERSHIP:

 

House              One member of the House of Representatives as an ex-officio member, appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives:

                        Carpenter

 

Senate             One member of the Senate as an ex-officio member, appointed by the President of the Senate:

                        Martin

 

Other               Nine members knowledgeable in: the aerospace industry; scientific initiatives concerning space resource characterization and utilization; community coalition building or tourism facility development; space-related research and development; resources to support the space-related industry; space-related business ventures;  mechanisms for infrastructure improvement; educational systems to support the aerospace industry; or regulatory mechanisms governing space ventures, appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate:

Notes:              Appointed members serve two-year terms beginning and ending on the third Monday in January. No appointed member may serve more than three consecutive terms. Members are eligible for reimbursement of expenses. Ex-officio members are not eligible to vote and do not count for the purpose of determining a quorum. The Director of the Department of Commerce shall serve as acting chair until members elect a chair at its first meeting.
