FLOOR AMENDMENT EXPLANATION
1. Removes the American civics education assessment as a graduation requirement.
2. Requires the Department of Education (ADE), rather than the State Board of Education (SBE) to submit the request for proposals for and award a contract to an assessment provider, and determine the cut scores on the assessment, subject to approval by the SBE.
3. Allows ADE to terminate the participation of a school or school district from the pilot program if ADE determines on an annual basis that a school or district is not adequately education pupils participating in the pilot program, subject to approval by the SBE.
4. Requires ADE to consider the performance of pupils on the assessment when considering the termination of a school or district's participation in the program.
5. Allows ADE to retain up to $50,000 for the administration of the program.
