Relating to urology and telemedicine services covered by insurance.
Provisions
1. Adds urology, pain medicine and substance abuse to the list of health care services provided through telemedicine that must be covered by insurance. (Sec. 1 – 4)
2. Specifies that insurers must cover urology provided by way of telemedicine, beginning January 1, 2020. (Sec. 1-4)
3. Specifies that insurers must cover pain medicine and substance abuse by way of telemedicine, beginning January 1, 2019. (Sec. 1-4)
Current Law
A.R.S. § 20-841.09 defines telemedicine as the interactive use of audio, video or other electronic media for the purpose of diagnosis, consultation or treatment. The delivery of health care through telemedicine is regulated by A.R.S. § 36-3602 and requires the treating health care provider to obtain verbal or written informed consent from the patient or the patient's health care decision maker.
