Abstract

Provisions

1.       Instructs school district athletics policies to include guidelines, information and forms developed in consultation with a private entity that supervises athletics to inform coaches, students and parents on the dangers of heat-related illnesses, sudden cardiac death and prescription opioid abuse.

a.       Requires students and parents to annually sign an information form stating they are aware of the risks before participating in athletic activity. (Sec. 1)

Current Law

School districts are charged with prescribing and enforcing policies and procedure for the health and safety of students participating in athletic activities, including practices and games (A.R.S. § 15-341). Adopted guidelines are required to include the provision of water and procedures for concussions and head injuries.
