Abstract

Provisions

1.       Permits that, beginning on January 1, 2020, the annual salary, benefits package and other non-salary compensation with monetary value for each public employee or direct contract labor employee may not exceed the lesser of the following:

a.       Two times the annual salary, benefits package and other non-salary compensation with monetary value of the Governor.

b.       Eight times the average annual salary, benefits package and other non-salary compensation with monetary value of a member of the Legislature. (Sec. 1)

Current Law

The commission on salaries for elective state officers was created in 2002. The commission biennially conducts a review of the rates of pay of elective state officers, justices, judges and clerks of the Superior Court.  The commission determines and provides pay levels appropriate to the duties and responsibilities of each respective office. The commission holds public hearings to aid it in its work.  The commission submits a report to the Governor, no later than June 1, of the results of each review along with its recommendations. The recommendations of the commission regarding legislative salaries are certified by the SOS and the SOS submits it to the qualified electors at the next regular general election (A.R.S. § 41-1903).
