PRIME SPONSOR: Representative Descheenie, LD 7 BILL STATUS: Caucus & COW |
Relating to TPT distribution to tribal colleges.
Provisions
1. Increases the amount of TPT distributed to additional technical universities located on Indian reservations in FYs 2019 through 2025 to the lesser of:
a. $1,875,000; or
b. More than 15.7% of TPT received from all sources located on the reservation.
Current Law
A.R.S. § 42-5031.01 allows any qualifying tribal community college to receive $1,750,000, or 10% of the TPT revenues collected from all sources located on the reservation, whichever is less. These monies provide tribal community colleges with funding for maintenance, renewal, and capital expenses. That same section of statute also allows any additional technical college located on the same reservation to receive $875,000, or 5% of the TPT revenues collected from sources located on the reservation, whichever is less.
This funding is limited to tribes that enter into a compact with the Executive. The FY 2016 Higher Education BRB extended the deadline for tribes to enter into a compact from September 1, 2012 to September 1, 2017. Diné College and Navajo Technical College on the Navajo Nation already qualify for the funding. Tohono O’Odham entered into a compact with the Executive in 2017, so now also qualifies.
