Relating to enacting the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act.
Provisions
1. Urges US Congress to enact the proposed BWNVVA into law.
2. Directs the SOS to transmit a copy of this Memorial to the President of the US Senate, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives and each member of Congress from Arizona.
Additional Information
The Agent Orange Act of 1991 allowed for veterans' benefits to be delivered to those who suffer from any of the diseases linked to Agent Orange by the Federal Government, but was limited in 2002 to only those veterans who could provide proof of "boots on the ground" in Vietnam.
BWNVVA would restore the presumptive coverage for blue water veterans and lift the burden of having to prove exposure to Agent Orange, as well as lessen the suffering of veterans currently enduring diseases from their service in Vietnam.
H.R.299 was introduced in January 2017 to amend Title 38 USC to clarify presumptions relating to exposure of certain veterans who served near the Republic of Vietnam, and for other purposes. This Act is cited as the "Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2017".
