Relating to the state Militia age requirement.
Provisions
1. Amends the Arizona Constitution by removing the age limit of 45 years for an able-bodied person to serve in the state Militia and who can act in concert for the common defense. (Sec. 1)
2. Requires the SOS to submit the proposition to the voters at the next general election. (Sec. 1)
3. Makes technical and conforming changes. (Sec. 1)
Current Law
The state Militia consists of all capable Arizona citizens between the ages of 18 and 45 years and residents between the ages of 18 and 45 who have declared their intention to become citizens of the US. The organized Militia is designated the Arizona National Guard and consists of organized military bodies under the law. The organization, equipment and discipline of the National Guard must conform to the regulations of the US armies (Article XVI, Section 1-3, Arizona Constitution).
