Provisions

1.       Declares the Legislature's:

a.       support of the continued use of nuclear power as a source of energy generation; and

b.       commitment to policies that ensures nuclear energy continues to thrive.

 

Additional Information

Palo Verde became fully operational in 1988 and is the only nuclear power plant in Arizona. Located near Tonopah, APS operates Palo Verde. Rated at 3,937 net megawatts, Palo Verde is the largest nuclear power plant in the US and second in total electricity generating capacity (www.eia.gov). Palo Verde is owned by: APS (29.1%); SRP (17.5%); El Paso Electric Company (15.8%); Southern California Edison (15.8%); Public Service Company of New Mexico (10.2%); Southern California Public Power Authority (5.9%); and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (5.7%) (www.sprnet.com).
