Abstract

Provisions

1.       Modifies the time frame of the Legislative session to:

a.       Commence on the fourth Monday of January each year; and

b.       Adjourn sine die by the last Friday in April each year. (Sec. 1)

2.       Requires this Act to be approved by the voters. (Sec. 1)

3.       Makes technical changes. (Sec. 1, 2) (WM)

Current Law

The Legislative session is required to commence on the second Monday in January of each year (Arizona Constitution, Article IV, Part 2, § 3).

Additional Information

Pursuant to Rule 2 of the House of Representatives and Rule 27 of the Senate, regular sessions are required to be adjourned sine die no later than Saturday of the week in which the 100th day of each regular session falls. The Speaker and the President are permitted to authorize the extension of session for a period of no more than seven additional days. Thereafter, the session can only be extended by a majority vote.
