Abstract

Provisions

1.       Establishes August 7th of each year as Purple Heart Day. (Sec. 1)

2.       Specifies that Purple Heart Day is not a legal holiday. (Sec. 1)

Additional Information

According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, the Purple Heart was established as the Badge of Military Merit on August 7, 1782 by General George Washington. The Purple Heart is awarded by the US President to any member of the US Armed Forces who have been wounded or killed while serving.
