Abstract

Provisions

1.       Continues the Study Committee until October 1, 2020. (Sec. 1)

2.       Requires the Study Committee to provide a copy of activities to the Governor, President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives and the SOS by December 31, 2019. (Sec. 1)

Current Law

The Study Committee consists of: 1) three members of the Senate; 2) three members of the House of Representatives; and 3) one county assessor appointed by the President of the Senate. The Study Committee is required to: 1) hold hearings and collect information regarding the acquisition of privately owned real property by government entities; 2) examine the impact of government ownership of real property on the State and local economies; and 3) determine a way in which a privately owned real property can be obtained by a government entity without reducing a local community's tax base (Laws 2015, Chapter 188).

Additional Information

On November 29, 2017, the Study Committee recommended that the Legislature adopt legislation to extend the Study Committee for two years beyond the October 2018 sunset date.
