Abstract

Provisions

1.       Limits information about a member in PSPRS, CORP, or EORP that is subject to public records inspection to the following:

a.       The member’s name;

b.       Member status (active, inactive, retired);

c.        Current or most recent employer;

d.       Average monthly compensation used to calculate a retirement benefit;

e.       Credited service on account for an active or inactive member or the credited service used to calculate a retired member’s benefit;

f.         Gross pension amount actually paid to a retired member;

g.       Most recent retirement date;

h.       Current account balance for an active or inactive member;

i.         Gross LTD program benefit actually paid to a disabled member;

j.         Amount paid to purchase credited service; and

k.       Amount of credited service purchased. (Sec. 1)

2.       Asserts all other information, in order to protect a member’s identity from fraud, abuse, theft or civil or criminal activity, is not subject to public records inspection. (Sec. 1)

3.       Prohibits the Board from allowing any unredacted record that contains specified information from being inspected. (Sec. 1)

Current Law

PSPRS was created for the purpose of providing a uniform, consistent and equitable statewide program for public safety personnel who are regularly assigned to hazardous duty. The Board governs and administers the retirement system for police and firefighters. Additionally, the Board administers the retirement plans for correctional officers (CORP) and elected officials (EORP) (A.R.S Title 38, Chapter 5).

Additional Information

Laws 2013, Chapter 110 established similar limits on public records inspections for members in the Arizona State Retirement System.
