Relating to AZPOST membership.
Provisions
1. Requires the two certified LEO members on AZPOST to have knowledge and experience in officer representation in disciplinary cases.
a. One must have a rank of officer, the other deputy;
b. One must be from a county with less than 500,000 persons. (Sec. 1)
2. Makes technical changes. (Sec. 1)
Current Law
A.R.S. § 41-1821 establishes AZPOST and outlines its membership as follows:
· Two sheriffs (one from a county of 200,000 or more persons and the other from a county of less than 200,000 persons);
· Two chiefs of city police (one from a city of 60,000 or more persons and the other from a city of less than 60,000 persons);
· A college faculty member in public administration;
· The Attorney General;
· The Director of ADPS;
· The Director of ADC;
· An employee in county administration or municipal correctional facilities;
· Two certified LEOs with a rank of patrolman or sergeant:
o One from a county sheriff's office;
o One from a city police department; and
· Two public members.
Members of AZPOST are appointed by the Governor and serve 3-year terms.
A.R.S. § 41-1822 outlines the duties of AZPOST and includes establishing minimum qualifications for LEOs, training and LEO certification.
