Relating to forest management.
Provisions
1. Encourages the USFS, BLM and ADFFM to take immediate steps to implement management policies that are beneficial to promoting healthy forests in Arizona.
2. Directs the SOS to transmit copies of this Memorial as outlined.
Current Law
The ADFFM was established to provide for land management and the prevention and suppression of wildland fires on State land and on private property located outside of cities and towns (A.R.S. § 37-1301). The State Forester is authorized to enter into cooperative agreements with other state and federal agencies, departments and political subdivisions, and any person for the prevention and suppression of wildfires (A.R.S. § 37-1303).
Additional Information
The USFS manages and protects 154 national forests and 20 grasslands in 43 states and Puerto Rico.
The BLM manages 245 million acres of land and 700 million acres of mineral estate. In Arizona, the BLM manages 12.2 million acres of public land and 17.5 million subsurface acres.
