Abstract

Provisions

1.       Urges the President of the United States to negotiate modifications to NAFTA, maintain the trilateral nature of the agreement and conclude negotiations by the agreed date. (Sec. 1)

2.       Urges Congress to swiftly ratify and certify the new terms of NAFTA. (Sec. 1)

3.       Instructs the SOS to transmit copies of this memorial to the President of the U.S, the U.S Trade Representative, the President of the U.S Senate, the Speaker of the U.S House of Representatives and each member of Congress from the state of Arizona. (Sec. 1)

Additional Information

In 1991, Canada, Mexico and the United States agreed to NAFTA, which became effective in 1994. NAFTA eliminated many tariffs, duties and restrictions. In addition, NAFTA covers rules of origin, customs procedures, agricultural and sanitary measures, government procurement and dispute settlement procedures.
