Assigned to APPROP FOR COMMITTEE
ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Fifty-Third Legislature, Second Regular Session
appropriation; state fire school
Purpose
Appropriates $172,100 from the state General Fund (GF) in Fiscal Year (FY) 2018-2019 to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (ADFFM) for the operation of a state fire school.
Background
The following amounts have been previously appropriated to the state fire school from the state GF:
FY 2016-2017 |
$172,100.00 |
FY 2017-2018 |
$173,100.00 |
The state fire school appropriation helps subsidize the school's tuition for firefighters from rural areas of Arizona. The appropriation does not include amounts for payments of room and board. The appropriation also pays for one Full Time Equivalent (FTE) position who works with the Arizona Fire Training Committee (AFTC).
The state fire school offers 34 workshops over a five-day period. Each workshop takes a total of 24 hours to complete over the course of the five-day program. Each attendee chooses one workshop to attend while at the state fire school. The AFTC is a volunteer, non-profit organization that manages and coordinates the fire school and other fire training programs.
The impact to the state GF is the amount of the appropriation.
