Arizona beef council; continuation.
Purpose
Continues the Arizona Beef Council (Council) for eight years.
Background
The Council is a not-for-profit organization established by the Legislature with the purpose of creating a self-financed program to maintain and expand the beef industry on a state, national, and global level. The Council is composed of nine members, including range cattle producers, cattle feeders and dairymen (A.R.S. § 3-1232).
The Senate Natural Resources, Energy and Water and the House of Representatives Land, Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee of Reference (COR) held a public meeting on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 to review and consider the Council's responses to the sunset factors. The COR recommended that the Legislature continue the Council for eight years. The Council terminates on July 1, 2018, unless continued by the Legislature.
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Continues, retroactive to July 1, 2018, the Council until July 1, 2026.
2. Repeals the Council on January 1, 2027.
3. Contains a purpose statement.
4. Becomes effective on the general effective date, with a retroactive provision as noted.
