traffic survival schools; updated curriculum
Purpose
Requires a traffic survival school to annually update curriculum.
Background
A traffic survival school is a school that offers educational sessions designed to improve driver safety and habits that is required of drivers convicted of certain traffic offenses. A person must attend and successfully complete traffic survival school to avoid suspension of driving eligibility if he or she is convicted of any of the following: 1) running a red light; 2) aggressive driving; 3) a moving violation that results in death or serious bodily injury; or 4) a first moving violation if the person is under 18 years old (A.R.S. § 28-101).
The Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation establishes traffic survival school operating license and insurance requirements (A.R.S. § 28-3413). The operator of a traffic survival school may collect a reasonable and approved fee for traffic survival school educational sessions (A.R.S. § 28-3412).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact on the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Requires traffic survival school educational sessions to include curriculum updated at least annually.
2. Makes a technical change.
3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
