ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Fifty-Third Legislature, Second Regular Session
veterinary medical examining board; continuation
Purpose
Continues the Arizona State Veterinary Medical Examining Board (Board) for eight years.
Background
The Board was established in 1923 with the primary purpose of protecting the public from unlawful, incompetent, unqualified, impaired or unprofessional veterinary medicine practitioners. The Board licenses and regulates veterinarians, veterinary medical premises and crematories. The Board also reviews, investigates and resolves complaints made against licensees (A.R.S. § 32-2207).
The Senate Natural Resources, Energy and Water and the House of Representatives Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee of Reference (COR) held a public meeting on November 8, 2017 to review and consider the Board's responses to the sunset factors and to receive public testimony. The COR recommended that the Legislature continue the Board for eight years. The Board terminates on July 1, 2018, unless continued by the Legislature.
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
