juvenile court facilities; shelters; use

 

Purpose

 

Allows the presiding judge of a superior court to authorize juvenile court staff to provide services within available juvenile court facilities.

 

Background

 

A juvenile court is the juvenile division of the superior court with jurisdiction over children in proceedings that relate to delinquency, dependency or incorrigibility (A.R.S. § 8-201). The presiding judge of the juvenile court: a) appoints the director of juvenile court services, who recommends the appointment of other court personnel; b) approves the appointment of court personnel; and c) prescribes the duties of appointed court personnel (A.R.S. § § 8-203 and 8-205).

 

The presiding judge of a superior court can authorize a provider of juvenile shelter or treatment services to use juvenile court facilities, if available (A.R.S. § 8-202).

 

There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.

 

Provisions

 

1.      Allows the presiding judge of a superior court to authorize juvenile court staff to provide services within available juvenile court facilities.

 

2.      Makes a conforming change.

 

3.      Becomes effective on the general effective date.
