Beirut bombing; remembrance day
Purpose
Proclaims October 23, 2018 as Beirut Bombing Remembrance Day.
Background
The Resolution states that on October 23, 1983, 220 U.S. Marines, 18 sailors, and 3 soldiers were killed during a terrorist explosion while on a peacekeeping mission in Beirut, Lebanon. The Resolution explains that the Beirut Bombing signified the start of the global war on terror.
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Resolves that the members of the Arizona Legislature proclaim October 23, 2018 as Beirut Bombing Remembrance Day.
2. Resolves that the members of the Arizona Legislature honor the memory of American service personnel killed in the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon.
