Lindsey Perry; auditor general
Purpose
Approves the appointment of Lindsey Perry as the Auditor General of the State of Arizona.
Background
The Auditor General is appointed by the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) and approved by a concurrent resolution of the Legislature for a term of five years beginning on the date of the person’s appointment. The Auditor General must be a certified public accountant licensed to practice in Arizona and is subject to the standards of the accounting profession as regulated by the Arizona State Board of Accountancy. The Auditor General is required to serve full time and is eligible to receive an annual salary (A.R.S. § 41-1279.01).
Lindsey Perry has been serving as the Director of the Division of Financial Investigations in the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) since July 2017. Prior to that, Ms. Perry served as Special Investigative Unit Manager, held various positions in the Special Investigative Unit and was a Financial Auditor over the course of her career with the OAG since May 2002.
The Auditor General must: 1) prepare an audit plan subject to JLAC approval and report the results of each audit, investigation and review; 2) conduct biennial financial and compliance audits of financial transactions and accounts kept by all state agencies subject to the Single Audit Act of 1984 (P.L. 98-502); 3) perform procedural reviews for state agencies as determined by the Auditor General; 4) perform special research requests, special audits and related assignments; 5) conduct performance audits, special audits and research requests, and investigations of state agencies; and 6) prepare a written report to the Governor and to JLAC (A.R.S. § 41-1279.03).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Resolves that the members of the Legislature approve the appointment of Lindsey Perry as the
Auditor General of the State of Arizona.
2. Becomes effective on passage by both chambers of the Legislature.
