Colorado basin project act; anniversary

 

Purpose

 

Recognizes the significance of the Colorado River Basin Project Act and its positive impact on Arizona.

 

Background

 

On September 30, 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the Colorado River Basin Project Act (CRBPA). The CRBPA of 1968  authorized construction of water development projects, including the Central Arizona Project (CAP). The CAP provides conveyance and storage facilities to import a major portion of Arizona’s share of Colorado River water into the south-central part of the State.

 

September 30, 2018, marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the CRBPA.

 

There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.

 

Provisions

 

1.      Resolves that the Legislature and the Governor recognize that cooperation with respect to this state's water future is essential for the prosperous future and continued economic success of Arizona's citizens.
