Under current law, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is required to issue the veteran, former prisoner of war, the purple heart recipient and the pearl harbor survivor special license plate to a person who submits satisfactory proof that the person meets eligibility requirements and pays an associated fee. The allocation of each special plate's fee, as outlined in statute, includes deposit into the Veterans' Donation Fund (A.R.S §§ 28-2414, 28-2473, 28-2474, 28-2475).
International symbol of access special plates and special plates for hearing impaired persons are considered to be exempt from the original and renewal special plate fees (A.R.S. § 28-2402). ADOT shall issue an international symbol of access special plate and placard to a person who has a permanent physical disability who is an owner or lessee of a motor vehicle or an organization that owns or leases a motor vehicle primarily for transportation of persons with physical disabilities (A.R.S. § 28-2409).
