Appropriates $1 million to the Department of Health Services (DHS) for alcohol, tobacco, and drug education.
History
The Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family's (GOYFF) mission is to develop and implement programs, strategies, and initiatives to strengthen the continuum of services in communities through partnerships with community, faith, private, public, and tribal partners. GOYFF is comprised of 8 focus areas which oversee state and federal resources: child well-being, human trafficking, juvenile justice, prevent violence against women, service and volunteerism, americorps, substance abuse, and youth commission.
Pursuant to A.R.S. § 41-115, GOYFF or DHS may partner with state and local education agencies and facility-based nonprofit youth development organizations to annually teach students 5th -12th grade about the health dangers of federally defined illegal substances, tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, opioids, and nonprescription pharmaceuticals.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $1 million from the state GF each FY to DHS for alcohol, tobacco, and drug education. (Sec. 1)
2. Expands the educational topics taught to students regarding health dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs to include electronic smoking devices. (Sec. 1)
