History

A trophy is defined as a:

a)      mule deer buck with at least four points on one antler;

b)     whitetail deer buck with at least three points on one antler;

c)      bull elk with at least six points on one antler;

d)     pronghorn (antelope) buck with at least one horn that is a minimum of fourteen inches in length;

e)      big horn sheep; and

f)       bison (A.R.S. § 17-101).

The minimum civil penalty for unlawfully taking, wounding, killing or possessing a trophy is $8,000 (A.R.S. § 17-314).

Provisions

1.       Repeals the definition of trophy. (Sec. 1)

2.       Reduces the minimum civil penalty for unlawfully taking, wounding, killing or possessing wildlife as follows:

a.       $1,500 for each:

i.         mule deer buck with at least four points on one antler;

ii.       white tail deer buck with at least three points on one antler; and

iii.     pronghorn (antelope) buck with at least one horn that is a minimum of fourteen inches in length; and

b.       $2,500 for each bull elk with at least six points on one antler. (Sec. 2)

3.       Specifies the minimum penalty for a bighorn sheep or bison remains $8,000. (Sec. 2)

4.       Makes technical and conforming changes. (Sec. 1,2)
