History

AHCCCS is the state's Medicaid program that offers health care programs to service Arizona residents. One of AHCCCS' programs is for individuals who require nursing home or in-home care. These services are offered through the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS). The program serves individuals who are 65 or older, blind or have a disability and need ongoing services at a nursing facility level of care.

Provisions

1.       Requires the Director of AHCCCS to implement a program under which skilled home health aide services may be provided to members who have developmental disabilities, who are under 18 years of age and who are eligible to receive continuous skilled nursing or skilled nursing respite care services. (Sec. 1)

2.       Allows the services to be delivered by a parent, guardian or family member who is a licensed nursing assistant employed by a Medicare-certified home health agency service provider. (Sec. 1)

3.       Requires the Director to request any necessary approvals from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to implement this provision and to qualify for federal monies available under the Medicaid program or Arizona's 1115 Waiver. (Sec. 1)
