Overview

History

The highest level of uranium allowed in drinking water is 30 micrograms per liter, according to EPA regulations. A microgram is one thousandth of a milligram and one millionth of a gram. Increased levels of uranium in the air and drinking water is caused by the erosion of natural deposits. Increased ingestion of uranium can lead to kidney toxicity and a higher risk of cancer.

Provisions

1.       Urges the EPA to take immediate action to remediate uranium and related air and water pollution in this state.

 

2.       Urges the AG to consider legal action to expedite the cleanup by the EPA.

 

3.       Instructs the Secretary of State to distribute copies of this memorial to the Administrator of the EPA, the AG and each member of Congress from this state.
