History

After the purchase or transfer of a vehicle, trailer or semi-trailer, a person must apply for the certificate of a title within 15 days. A motor vehicle dealer is required to apply for a certificate of title within 30 days. The application must be in a form prescribed by the Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).  

An applicant for a certificate of title for a new motor vehicle is required to submit a manufacturer's certificate of origin showing the date of sale to the dealer or person who first received the vehicle from the manufacturer. Before ADOT issues a certificate of title for a new vehicle, a manufacturer's certificate of origin must be surrendered to ADOT (A.R.S § 28-2051).

Provisions

1.       Allows an applicant for a certificate of title for a new motor vehicle to submit one of the following documents in lieu of a manufacturer's certificate of origin:

a.       A factory invoice;

b.       A form provided by ADOT; or

c.        Other documentation that shows the date of sale to the dealer or the person who first received the vehicle from the manufacturer. (Sec. 1)
