Eliminates the youth confinement cost sharing fee and the associated Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) Local Cost Sharing Fund (fund).
History
ADJC is charged with supervision, rehabilitation, treatment and education of committed youth (A.R.S. § 41-2802).
Counties are required to pay an annual fee to ADJC to share in the costs of confining committed youth (A.R.S. § 41-2832). The total fee is set at $11.2 million annually, to be charged to each county based on proportional population (Laws 2018, Chapter 278, Section 11). The FY 2019 budget also included a corresponding $11.2 million distribution from the GF to counties to offset the impact of the fee (Laws 2018, Chapter 276, Section 116).
Provisions
1. Repeals the youth confinement cost sharing fee and the fund. (Sec. 1)
2. Transfers remaining in the fund to the GF and appropriates the monies for distribution to the counties in FY 2020. (Sec. 1)
