Increases the damage threshold required for the issuance of a written accident report.
History
Drivers involved in a motor vehicle accident that results in injury or death must give immediate notice of the accident in the quickest means of communication to a local police department, county sheriff or the nearest office of the highway patrol (A.R.S § 28-666).
Law enforcement and public employees who investigate a motor vehicle accident that resulted in bodily injury, death or damage in excess of $1,000 or the issuance of a citation shall complete a written report of the accident. The written report of the accident must be completed either: 1) at the time and scene of the accident or after the accident by interviewing participants and witnesses; or 2) within 24 hours after completing the investigation. In an accident that did not result in a citation for bodily injury or death and had damages of $1,000 or less, a portion of a written accident report must be completed within 24 hours of investigation or at the scene of the accident and contain:
1. The time, day, month and year of the accident;
2. Information adequate to identify the location of the accident;
3. Identifying information for all involved parties and witnesses, including name, age, sex, address, telephone number, vehicle ownership and registration and proof of insurance; and
4. A narrative description of the facts of the accident, a simple diagram of the scene of the accident and the investigating officer's name, age, agency and identification number (A.R.S § 28-667).
Provisions
1. Increases the damage threshold required for the issuance of a written accident report from $1,000, to $2,000. (Sec. 1)
