Prohibits residency requirements from being imposed on a firefighter or peace officer, with specified exceptions.
History
Fire districts are governed by an elected board with statutorily outlined powers and duties, including: 1) holding monthly public meetings; 2) determining compensation for personnel of the fire district; and 3) employing personnel and providing services deemed necessary for fire protection, preservation of life and for carrying out other duties (A.R.S. § 48-805).
Provisions
1. Prohibits a city, town or fire district from imposing a residency requirement on a firefighter or peace officer as a condition of employment. (Sec. 1)
2. Exempts executive-level firefighters and executive-level peace officers or peace officers employed by a city or town with a population of less than 5,000 from the prohibition. (Sec. 1)
