Appropriates $160,000 from the state General Fund to Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) to distribute to Arizona public universities in FY 2020 to maintain and operate an intercollegiate adaptive athletics program.
History
Adaptive athletics allows individuals with disabilities to participate in various competitive and recreational sports such as basketball, rugby, tennis, and handcycling. Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University run an intercollegiate adaptive athletics program (Program) through their respective disability resource centers. Each university allows students and community members with disabilities to participate in various competitive and recreational sports.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $160,000 from the state General Fund in FY 2020 to ABOR to distribute to the State's universities to maintain and operate the Program for students and community members with disabilities.
2. Requires monies appropriated to the Program to be spent only:
a. When the university collects matching monies of gifts, grants, and donations for the Program from sources other than Arizona; and
b. On scholarships, equipment, uniforms, travel expenses, and tournament fees for participants in the Program.
3. Prohibits the appropriated monies to be spent on administrative costs, personal services, or employee related expenditures.
4. Exempts the appropriated monies from lapsing after FY 2020.
