Extends the Towing Safety Task Force.
History
Laws 2018 Chapter 230 established the Towing Safety Task Force (Task Force). The Task Force consists of: 1) two members of the House of Representatives of different political parties appointed by the Speaker of the House (Speaker); 2) two members of the Senate from different political parties appointed by the President of the Senate (President); 3) the Director of the Department of Public Safety or the Directors designee; 4) two members that represent the towing industry of which one is appointed by the Speaker and the other appointed by the President; 5) one member who represents a local law enforcement agency appointed by the Speaker; and 6) one at-large member appointed by the President.
The Task Force is required to: 1) receive data, reports, testimony regarding towing and safety; 2) measure the safety efficacy of existing towing laws; 3) recommend driver education measures to improve driver awareness and promote driving habits that emphasize roadside safety; 4) recommend policy proposals to improve towing safety in Arizona; and 5) engage in any other related duties as determined by the Task Force members. On or before December 31, 2018, the Task Force is required to submit a final report of its findings and recommendations to the Governor, the President, the Speaker and the Secretary of State. The Task Force is scheduled to sunset on September 30, 2019.
The Task Force last met on December 17, 2018 and recommended that there be further discussion at a future meeting of the Task Force.
Provisions
1. Extends the Task Force for an additional 3 months, until January 1, 2020. (Sec. 1)
2. Requires an additional final report be submitted on December 1, 2019. (Sec. 1)
