ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Fifty-Fourth Legislature, First Regular Session
ASRS; waiting period; repeal
Purpose
Repeals statute that prohibits a state employee from becoming a member of the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) before the 27th week of employment.
Background
Statute requires that, notwithstanding any other law, any state employee initially hired on or after July 20, 2011, is not eligible to become a member of ASRS before the 27th week of employment. The state employee shall become a member of ASRS on the 27th week of employment, if membership criteria are met under ASRS statutes (Laws 2011, Chapter 277).
Any fiscal impact to the state General Fund would ensue when the employer portion of contributions to ASRS occurs earlier in the employee's employment than currently occurs.
Provisions
1. Repeals statute that prohibits a state employee from becoming a member of ASRS before the 27th week of employment.
2. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
